the cottage

formerly in a state of ruin, Piedras Enciso has been carefully restored using local materials – natural slate floors and chestnut beams.  from the covered terrace adjacent to the cortijo, the mosaic terrace or on the day bed by the spring fed pool, guests can enjoy panoramic views of the mountains, valleys and the ocean on a clear day.

lavender, roses, salvias, rosemary, honeysuckle are just some of the plants at the cortijo.

a grape vine & rose arbour offers welcome shade from the midday heat at the pool.  the cortijo has two lawns – one adjacent to the house, and one below.  fruit trees include cherries, quince, almonds, olives, a walnut and a paraguaya.  a willow graces the East view.

the cottage has one double bedroom, with an adjacent bathroom including bath & shower; one double or twin bedroom and space for a third single bed, with an ensuite toilet and basin.  both bedrooms have double stable doors offering access to the covered terrace.

the kitchen/ sitting room seats up to 6 people, and has a wood burning stove.  the fridge, oven and boiler are run on butane gas, and electricity is provided by solar power.

local attractions include the Alhambra palace in Granada, approx 1.5 hour’s drive from the cortijo.  La Ragua, the mountain pass has cross country skiing in the winter months, and the coast is approx 1.5 hour’s drive.

fiestas in the local Moorish villages take place during the summer months, and a stone built amphitheatre in the local village of Laroles offers concerts and plays from July onwards.

activities include horse riding, walking, tennis, swimming, yoga and massage.
